I made this bright baby version of the Love and Stitches pattern by Megan Collins. I love it and plan to make a full-size version to keep!
I quilted this top on my Pfaff Grand Quilter, pretending to be a longarm machine while riding proudly on its Inspira frame. So here’s the deal – my amazing husband rigged a jig on the carriage to lock the machine in place for straight-row quilting. It worked great!
I haven’t used the Phaff on its frame for a long time. I purchased it in 2008. I used it enough back then to get pretty good at it. It’s always been free motion and always small scale, but the tops were quilted and finished! I’m tickled to add the straight-line option to my list of possibilities.
We treated the quilting frame to a little TLC. The ten-foot frame is made of two five-foot lengths joined in the middle. Over time, it got pretty loose, so my sweetie reinforced it with a length of solid oak hand railing. He routed the groove in the oak to accommodate the channel for the spline to ride in. It’s a significant improvement.
Sometimes when mistakes creep in, I’m so disappointed that I can’t enjoy the project anymore. I made a dumb mistake on this quilt, so I just don’t look at that bit. I’m much happier and hope I can hold that equanimity!
