The Prompt for Challenge 2 is Pink
Pink! What to do? I pawed through my scraps until I found a small piece of this fabric featuring pink frogs on paisley lily pads. Ok, I can work with this. Once I had the idea, making this zip bag was a straightforward process.
You can always use another zip bag!
Plus, you don’t have to bind it!
I’ve had the square in a square block on my mind for a while, so the front of the bag was an easy decision. I definitely wanted to finish the project without binding it. I realized that if I put a zip closure in the body of the back, I could sew all four edges together and turn it right-side out through the open zipper. I put a hanging loop in the top, stitched it all the way around, and it was finished.
The quilting is a half-inch grid on the front and back. I purposely cut the back piece longer than the front so that after the zipper was installed, I could cut it down to the correct size. After quilting the back, I cut it into two pieces, surged the cut edges, and installed the zipper. Easy peasy.
Fabrics: print scrap and Kona Solids from stash
Quilted with: Aurifil 50-weight cotton thread

I’m taking a class in Affinity Design from Amber of Alderwood Studio. I am so glad that I discovered her site and this class. Affinity Design is a vector-based design program that is not configured on a block base model. After only a few sessions, I can tell that it’s easier to translate my ideas into diagrams. I purchased EQ8 several months ago, and I don’t really enjoy working with it. I’m optimistic about designing in Affinity. I’ll know more as I learn about the program and become proficient.
I have an Inspira quilting frame that I purchased in 2008, and I am finally making new quilt leaders for it. I’m excited. The rails are made in two five-foot sections that join to make a ten-foot frame. Over time, the aluminum rails developed play in the joints and are getting wobbly. My sweetie is going to reinforce the joints with a stout piece of ash cut to fit. Between that and the new leaders, I should be in good shape.
I made all the blocks for Denyse Schmidt’s Snake Trail quilt last fall. I’ve promised myself to finish putting the top together and quilt it as soon as I get my frame back in shape.
Thanks for reading! Let me know what you’re working on!
