Making Progress
These two quilts have been a fun project this month! Having both of them going at the same time is an excellent opportunity to experiment a little. They use almost the same colors, but the value contrast between the two background colors gives each one its personality. After looking at them for a couple of weeks, I’ve decided I like the gray background better.
I finished the quilting on the one with the white background, and I hope to get the binding done over the weekend. I used an all-over contour quilt pattern that worked out great. The close-set quilting stitches create movement across the top that I like a lot. I’m not sure what to quilt on the gray top, but I’m leaning toward something similar. Quilting suggestions are welcome!
Ann Wood Handmade is hosting a crow sew-along.
Check out this post from Ann Wood Handmade for all the details about the upcoming crow sew-along. I am so excited about making this pattern, and I’m having fun collecting the fabrics and supplies. My sewing room lacks a crow in any form. I can’t wait to make a realistic crow to keep me company.
Audrey Esarey Presented at My Guild!
It was inspiring to have Audrey Esarey of Cotton and Bourbon share her story and quilts via ZOOM with the Triangle Modern Guilt Guild this month. She’s won numerous first-place ribbons at Quilt Con and other major exhibits. Audrey shared insights into her process. She has worked out the technical issues necessary to create the flawless 1/4 inch grid that she quilts on many of her works. The quilts in each series build incrementally on skills already mastered. She is working on perfecting hand-dying techniques, and the resulting fabrics create quilts with color gradations that you can’t obtain with commercially dyed fabrics. Her presentation was excellent!
All Carolinas Shop Hop
North and South Carolina quilting shops are participating in the All Carolinas Shop Hop with special sales, discounts, and prizes. My community has a Joann big box fabric store, but we don’t have any quilt shops. The Broken Needle, my regular quilt shop and the one closest to me, is a thirty-minute drive from home. I won’t even try to visit every shop, but I am trying to see all 14 East Central Region stores, including Wake Forest, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and more! So far, I’ve shopped at eight stores, and I have six more. Wake Forest has three nice shops within a mile of each other. That’s awesome! I’m sure I’ll be going back there.
