August Features Quilting and Good Times
The Triangle Modern Quilters’ Guild met on August 14. Guild member Mollie R. gave a presentation titled “Rule My Quilt World” and shared tips for using rulers to get great results in piecing and domestic machine quilting. (Wait! What? Ruler-guided domestic machine quilting?) I need to get busy watching Angela Walter’s YouTube videos for the next little while!
2nd 2022 Quilt Swap
We also had our guild swap at this meeting. Members were invited to make a sewing machine mat to swap with another member. Here is the mat that I made. I used Kona solids and print fabrics from my stash. It’s based on four 6×9 blocks, each repeated once. I pieced it so that the blocks would not be obvious. It’s quilted with cotton thread using a serpentine stitch.
My swap partner designed her piece to be big enough to use as a sewing machine cover. She coordinated yellows and blues with this beautiful flower print. It fits my sewing machine perfectly and it makes my sewing space look fancy. I love it!
Currently in My Playroom
I fell in love with this quilt as soon as I saw it! I have the half-square blocks for a baby quilt stitched up and on my design wall. I also plan to make the nine-block throw.
I arranged my blocks for the Snake Trails quilt that I made when Denyse Schmidt hosted her sew-along. I hope to get it put together and quilted as soon as possible.
I have time to make a small quilt for my guild’s monochromatic mini-challenge if I will only commit to a plan!
I purchased EQ8 after lots of deliberation. I think it will work great for me, for now at least!
Mountain Getaway
August began with a short camping trip to Pisgah National Forrest. We haven’t been camping in the Smokies for several years and it was wonderful to return. You can count on summer in North Carolina to be hot and muggy, but the mountains offer cooler temperatures, unrivaled forest greenery, and gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge.
For us, camping means packing the tent and planning menus where all the ingredients will fit in the cooler. Temperatures fell into the sixties at night and we enjoyed homemade chili by the campfire. We had the Jetboil ready for morning coffee, but we realized that we left the coffee sitting on the kitchen counter at home. Bummer!
Family Reunion
Many thanks to my cousin Eric and his wife for hosting the family reunion again this year. It was great to see my sister and so many of my cousins. There’s a whole new generation coming along. Lots of good food and lots of love.
